CADRE ACADEMY
Personal Safety Education in Singapore
Practical skills. Clearer decision-making. Greater confidence for real-life situations.

REALISTIC TRAINING · PRACTICAL SKILLS ·
CLEARER DECISIONS · GREATER CONFIDENCE
REAL SITUATIONS ARE DIFFERENT
Real situations are unpredictable. Distance changes, resistance happens, and decisions often need to be made quickly.
A technique that works in one situation may not be the right response in another. Effective self-defence training therefore needs to develop more than techniques — it needs to develop the ability to recognise what is happening, make decisions and adapt.
Situations Change
Distance, position, environment and behaviour can change what is possible.
People Resist
Skills need to work through movement, pressure and interaction — not only when everything happens as expected.
Decisions Matter
Knowing when to act, when not to act and how to adapt is part of practical self-defence.
HOW WE TRAIN
Effective self-defence requires more than learning techniques. At CADRE Academy, training progresses from understanding and practising skills to applying them through movement, resistance and changing situations.
Through the Integrated Jiujitsu Framework, striking, grappling, control, weapon use and defence are developed together with awareness and decision-making — so students learn not only what to do, but when and how to adapt.
Recognise distance, behaviour, environment and changing circumstances.
Build striking, grappling, weapon use and defence, control and movement skills progressively.
Apply skills through interaction, resistance and scenario-based training.
Make decisions and adjust what you do as the situation changes.

EXPERIENCE BEHIND THE TRAINING
CADRE Academy is founded and led by Leon Koh, whose experience spans self-defence, jiujitsu, Taekwondo and the development of practical training programmes for children and adults.
His approach has been shaped through decades of teaching, coaching and continued study with recognised martial arts teachers and organisations. Today, that background informs CADRE’s work in Integrated Jiujitsu and Close Distance Combat, while continuing to evolve through ongoing training and research.
Experience teaching martial arts, self-defence and physical education across children, adults, athletes and instructors, supported by academic qualifications in applied psychology and experience lecturing in sports coaching and sport and exercise psychology.
CADRE's approach draws on Leon Koh's longstanding work with Avi Nardia and KAPAP Krav Maga — a system developed through Nardia's experience training military, law-enforcement and counter-terrorism personnel. Integrated Jiujitsu continues that evolution, combining practical experience with an adaptable approach to striking, grappling, control, weapon use and defence, and decision-making.
CADRE Academy is home to John Machado Jiu-Jitsu Singapore, providing a direct connection to Professor John Machado and his Jiu-Jitsu lineage.
WHAT TRAINING DEVELOPS
Better Prepared.
More Capable.
Whether you are training for yourself or choosing training for your child, the goal goes beyond learning techniques. Good training should develop greater awareness, better judgement and practical skills — qualities that can help students respond more appropriately when situations do not go as expected.

Develop the habit of noticing what is happening around you — changes in distance, behaviour, surroundings and situations that may need your attention.
Learn to recognise problems earlier, consider different options and make better choices about what to do next.
Build practical skills progressively and learn to apply them through movement, interaction and changing situations — not only when everything happens as expected.
The aim is not to prepare for every possible situation. It is to develop students who are more aware, more adaptable and better equipped to deal with uncertainty.
Today I am more aware of my surroundings, I am more secure, more confident. This place has made me tough!
- Marie, Avid traveler / Entrepreneur
Master Leon's empathetic nature on how we think, encourages to grow from where we are, makes me want to learn more.
- Calvin, CEO
I used to think that my body combat classes in gym would do me well, until I realized that gym classes and real world self defense is very different. There is also the physical and psychological awareness

A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING
Martial arts are not all designed around the same problems. What is taught matters — but so does how students learn to apply it.
At CADRE Academy, training builds on a practical self-defence lineage while continuing to evolve through modern training methods. Students develop skills across different fighting ranges and situations. Striking, grappling, control, movement, weapon use and defence are developed alongside awareness and decision-making, then tested progressively through interaction, resistance and scenario-based application.
For you or your child, the difference is not simply what techniques are learned. It is what the training prepares you to recognise, decide and do.
